any clever tips for protecting newly sown grass seed ?

I'm attempting some lawn ( though I wouldn't truly describe it as a lawn ) repairs .

I did a fairly large patch yesterday ( well 2' by 1') and have covered it with fine plastic mesh secured with cheap wire edging stuff from pound shop .

But I'm very worried that a bird might get tangled up somehow - I do hope this is just me being anxious ?

And I've got numerous smaller patches to do - do people just put lots of seed down and hope the birds will leave some ?

Any advice gratefully received ..

I just sow it, rake it in and water. Only protection is not to walk on that bit for a while.

Well that sounds deceptively easy Smile
