White flowered plant that smells like honey and vanilla-please tell me it's name!

In our last house there was an absolutely divine plant right by the washing line that smelled simply amazing, and in our rush to move in the middle of winter, I did t even think to take a cutting. I can't seem to upload a picture, but the flowers had four white petals, quite jagged looking, and it flowered from about June til September at a guess. Not very helpful I know. It was quite a tall bush, but it was a very well established garden so could have been there a long time. Can anyone help identify it! I'd love to get another to plant here.

possibly a philadelphus? There are many different types, but most of them smell fabulous.
