New hedge - dealing with weeds and border?

I cleared the area before I planted the hedge, and put a stone edge ing on the grass on either side . This means I can mow the grass without damaging the hedge with a strimmer and I mulched with chipped bark

I weed underneath regularly , so the hedge won't have to compete for water and food with weeds and grass and will grow faster . I have some small bulbs in there ATM

Remember you need to still cut your hedge a couple of times a year , so it grows thick and bushy and not tall and straggly

BTW mulching will only stop annual weed seeds germinating , you need to dig out the perennial ones
