Ground coverage

I have just moved house and have a much larger garden than before. The are 2 strips of garden with very little growing in them. I've planted them up but there is still a lot of exposed soil.

What can I plant that will grow quickly, cover the ground in between the other plants and look pretty?

The garden faces east.

Thank you smile

What have you planted already?

Quite a lot of ground cover, e.g. periwinkle is invasive. Is the site warm enough for herbs? I use these all over my garden in Melbourne and they're good cover, useful, and attract bees.

It IS warmer here. No frosts.

I have had a look in our garden and had following ideas: low growing phlox, low growing dianthus, or campanula these tend to grow pretty fast and cover a lot of ground?

Quite shady then so heucheras, pachysandra, ivy (can look nice), vinca, hottynias...
