Hmmm.My neighbours got something that sounds similar but I don't think they would know what it is either.
Do you want me to get a picture to see if it's the same?
If it is,I can ask my mum and dad when they are down at the weekend,unless someone else knows before.

Californian lilac - quite slow growing and takes a while to get to a size to give the full impact of the colour. I have one that it taking over my very small garden and is in for a serious prune once the flowers have gone. Mature plants can be big!

they don't smell of anything, i think, but can have a sniff when i get home.

I have two planted under my bay window at the front and sort of half trained as wall plants. They are in full bloom atm although I think it is a little late for them. They will be in need of a serious prune once flowering is over.
