Bark chippings

Just read that bark chippings help keep in the moisture and stop weeds. This is probably a totally stupid question but does that mean they also stop bulbs etc from sprouting (or whatever it is that bulbs etc do)? Have just planted a load of crocosmia bulbs and don't want to have wasted all that effort...

Depends on how thick you have done the bark layer.

I always start with a fairly thinnish layer until bulbs etc have started sprouting. Once they are established I add more bark chippings around them.
