Anyone else out there have a walnut tree? And if so ...

does it have any nuts on? The past 4 or 5 years our tree has produced 2 - 3 hundred walnuts each year. This year, there appear to be none at all. Is it the weather do you think? Or something else (please don't say slugs can eat walnuts, they've already had pretty much everything else in the garden Sad)

Lucky you! I would assume that its the weather this year, yes - I think we're going to have bad apple harvests from any tree that was in bloom in the really wet and stormy weather which prevented the insects getting out and pollinating things, and it wouldn't surprise me if trees that rely on the wind for pollination also are affected by the heavy rain.

Our walnut tree produces that amount of walnuts which are then eaten by the squirrels before they get to human edible point. Last year I actually had a 'harvest' - 12 of them! Haven't checked what's happening this year but as everything else is suffering in the weather I imagine the nuts will probably be affected too.

Which means the squirrels will be really hungry this year...that will be exciting.
