tiny white worms on freshly dug up potatoes

I've just harvested my first spuds of the year and noticed that there are approx 10 - 15 tiny white worms / bugs about 2mm long on each spud, plus some in the soil. The spuds themselves seem to look ok but I havent been able to chop any open yet due to my 2 DD's currently covering themselves and the kitchen in water scrubbing them for me!

Anyone got any idea what they are?? I've been growing organic veg for 10 years now & I've not seen them before.

If it helps at all I live in the northwest very close to the sea and we have had loads and loads of rain this year.

spuds chopped up and they look ok apart from 1 or 2 that have a mushy brown grey bit at the end...

Probably PCN, potato cyst nematodes. Don't plant spuds there again, they will ruin them. In fact I would dig your crop up now and wash them and store them.
