disguising an old washing line post with clematis.

We were (or at least dh was) going to take out our old washing line concrete post. Our retired neighbours warned us that it was the biggest job they have ever done in their garden, so we are rethinking it!

So, Im thinking of growing clematis up it to disguise it. (we have plenty of honeysuckle in the garden). But clematis seems to have quite a short flowering season. Do you reckon I could grow two different sorts up it and can I get away with not pruning it? (cos that would get complicated with growing up two different sorts)

I would still take it out Anything that is in the way like that once removed gives a real feeling of space. We did it in our old house and wasn,t that bad a job iirc

it would be nice if it was gone, it is in an awkward spot! Maybe dh should give it a go......

I've just started growing a clematis up my washing pole - venosa violacea www.gardenersworld.com/plants/clematis-venosa-violacea/1931.html. I wouldn't have even contemplated taking my pole out but doesn't really cause a problem where it is. I think it will look really pretty with climbers but not sure if mine would have enough room for more than one!

Tis no good, the post will have to stay in. Dh says the amount of concrete is huge. So it will have to be a disguise it option. Pity.
