Help, my new lawn is full of dock leaves

A few months ago we dug up a load of hard standing, put down some topsoil (that I got cheap from someone who was doing a self build), seeded it and now we have a new lawn.

We also have loads and loads of dock leaves in our new lawn (my own fault I know for being a cheap skate on the topsoil, lesson now learnt!). I've just had a go at digging some of them out but they're really big and the roots seem to go down a long way, I snapped most of them off when trying to dig them up. I think I'd completely have to dig the lawn up to get them out by the root.

Is there another way of getting rid of them? My mum says just keep mowing and they'll go eventually. If that's right then I'm happy to do that, but I'm just not so sure myself that mowing will eventually get rid of them. Any ideas?

Mowing will gradually get rid of them, but it may take a while, specially if you're not someone who's out mowing all the time!

I'd go for a lawn weedkiller, they kill everything that's not grass. You could get an autumn "weed & feed" mix, or just a weedkiller on its own. But read the instructions on it in case it says you shouldn't use it until so many weeks/months after seeding the area. Oh and there might also be incstructions on the grass seed packet if you still have it.
