vermin proof apple storage

our allotment has been more productive this year, and we have lots of potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, onions, garlic, apples to store. the potatoes and carrots I will leave in the ground, tomatoes I'll cook and freeze, but what to do with the apples and onions? we tried storing potatoes in a sack in our garage last year, but something got in and ate them. there's no space in the house, and anyway it'll probably be too warm for them to last long. I'm going to hang the onions and garlic in the garage anyway and hope for the best, but does anyone know of vermin proof storage for outside?
