Self-Teacher a Geography A-Level topic

My DS really doesn't like the hazard topic and his teacher isn't very good at teaching it apparently so he would like to self-teach the "Ecosystems under Stress" topic as parts of it cross over with biology (one of his other subjects). He's looked at the papers and it looks like students can answer any of the questions rather than only getting the topics the teacher has asked for. Will the papers still be like this in May?

Is it actually possible for him to do this?

Without knowing the exam board I don’t think anyone can give you an answer

That said in theory yes it’s possible but in practice absolutely not advisable!

DD did A level geography in 2018. She found the hazards topic easy to understand. My advice is to use the Philippines as a case study as it suffers from all the natural hazards you can think of, except avalanches. He will also need to memorise other case studies to use as examples.

I think part of the problem is how hazards has been taught. He is fine with the case studies but not the theory of the hazards.

I agree that it makes a huge difference if the teaching is good. DD had a very inspirational chemistry teacher and was struggling along getting Cs in year 12. She achieved an A at A level because she had such a good and very supportive teacher.

Does he have any text books to revise from?
