GCSE predicted grades

My year 11 dd is looking at a local college for a levels next year instead of her 6th form comp

She wants to do maths A level
The requirement for the course is a grade 7

Her targets in all subjects that her school has given her is a grade 6
Her end of year 10 maths exam she got a grade 7

Her latest progress report shows target grade 6

She wants to apply to the college now but what does she put down as predicted grades
The grade 6 maths ( mocks haven't happened yet)
Her last test result
Or wait until mocks are out of the way.
What if she gets a grade 7 mock in maths but the school still puts her target down as a 6

Sorry... I don't know how it works

My year 11 dd has just applied, she put her predicted grades as per the school even though her recent tests in some subjects have been a grade above and she is convinced she will get the higher grade, but none of her grades were critical for the A levels she wants to do as her predicted grades from the school already cover the requirements

Her targets sound like they were set from her stats results.

I contacted our local college and they said to either leave it blank or wait until after mocks.

Maths A-level, if you only got a 6 or 7 at GCSE, will be TOUGH.
My school will only let kids with an 8 or 9 do it, or maybe a high 7 by negotiation and seeing how the child gets on for the first few weeks.

The OP’s dd got a Grade 7 in Year 10. It’s very likely she can up that to at least an 8 with hard work and exam technique.

The targets are not predictions. Targets are based on expected progress from year 6 SATS results. My son has a target of Grade 6 in everything. His actual predictions range from Grade 3 to Grade 8 depending on the subject.

My year 11 has just decided to wait for her mock exams results to come out and that’s when she will submit her 3 choices. She did put her grade 6 as predictions but she will definitely get more than that and her school have told all year 11 to apply after the mock exams results. She has filled in the application forms on 3 colleges and saved it and she will submit them after the results. The application for colleges are open here until February 2020

Does she have some other options in case she doesn't get a high enough grade to take maths? Most colleges let you apply for 4 subjects, try them at a taster day and narrow them down later. I agree maths will be tough with a grade 6 if she does get a place. I would pop 7 down on the form if that is what she is currently working at.

Thanks. The college that she wants to go to needs a 7 in maths
The two local 6th form comps both want a 6 in maths.
She also wants to do geography and psychology which don't need any particular pases to get anywhere apart from the 6 x grade 4 to get into college/ 6th form

She really wants to be a maths teacher (at the moment, so would need to do a degree in maths) that may change... Who knows!

All the places only do 3 course s they can do upto 5
es apart from the local grammar where

Ds got a 5 in maths when he left primary school and a 4 in English. His predicted grade on the secondary school system said a GCSE grade 6 for maths, his teacher could only over-ride it with a 7 despite getting grade 9 on all the papers he sat in as close to exam conditions as you can get.

When he applied for sixth form I think it said 7+ which is what most of them will say rather than 8 or 9. Until the exam is sat they don't know what a 7 is and the 9 is worked out from the 7 and the 8 is half way between the 7 and the 9.

Ds got a 9 in maths and an 8 in English. Also his predicted grade for science was 6,6 despite having a working grade of 6,7 and finally getting 9,9 in the actual GCSE. It is just ridiculous.

Definitely would not be put off by target grades. We experienced some quite dramatic increases and decreases in target grades - how they feel about the subject is important too!
