Dd is. In her words 'it's x days til I know whether I can apply for Cambridge or not'.

So just a little bit of pressure then....

I'm waiting for mine, there's a really good thread called 'Class of '18 nervously waiting'if you wanted to chat to others.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I thought that was just for a levels, not AS.

I think it started as that but I don't see why you wouldn't be made welcome, they made me welcome!

DS2 is only awaiting 1 AS result, but we are being careful not to let DS2's 'uni entry' BTEC result overshadow it! TBH, DS2 isn't that bothered! He's dropped the subject anyway.

Yep, DS1 will be logging on at 6am. He doesn’t think he’s done as well as he wanted - expecting Bs and Cs when he needs AAA or AAB for Psychology at his preferred universities. But what will be will be ....

4 Bs ( with an A in one of the History papers). Not sure what happens now. Will his college predict 3 Bs at A level, which will restrict his choice of universities? He’s been told that students usually get similar grades at A level as they do at AS and he’s been one or two marks off an A in most assessments this last year.
If college predict him Bs he’s thinking of not applying this year ( he’s having a gap year anyway) and working his socks off to get As.
Aargh decisions ...

I'm surprised that people are still doing 4 ASs under the 'new' system! At DS's college, they have to choose one of the 4 to take to AS, the others go to A2.

Though DS got an email today from the Geog tutor 'inviting' him to carry on to A2 as he got an unexpected A for that AS! Hooray!

It’s very confusing. DS took all 4 subjects but only one ( the subject he’s dropping) counts as an AS. The others are just exam practice. But they’re used to determine predicted grades.

In Wales, AS levels are still a thing for every A level they are taking. BUT they also have to do a separate Welsh Bacc, which means that it's difficult to take 4 to then drop as Welsh Bacc is compulsory and can't be dropped. It can sort of count as an A level I believe, but does add to their load.

DD got A History, with high marks that might equate to an A* next year. An A in psychology, with one paper a high A but the other a B.
And the expected, but unwanted B in english. One paper was actually an A, but the other was a C.

I'm not going to tell her not to put Cambridge down as one of her choices if she wants, but I don't think those grades are good enough, especially as I've heard they look at the marks received and want pupils who have dropped as few marks as possible.

I'm proud of her and have told her that.

DrMadelineMaxwell,

Often predictions for A level are above Y12 / AS grades, which would mean AAA & game on...

Oh DS has been told that his college usually predict the same grades as Yr 12 exams unless assessments throughout the year have been consistently higher.

There is no A* at AS level, it stops at A.
