Holiday booked at beginning of term !

I'm so stupid - I have booked a holiday over the beginning of the college term - DD will miss first day on the Friday and apparently 'enrolment ' interviews the week following GCSE results .
Holiday all booked and paid for for two DDs DH and I .
We work for emergency services and basically this was the week we were offered and took it not realising college would start on the Friday ! Had no prior knowledge of ' enrolment ' interviews - just expected if things were bad at gcse she would find out when she got there !(yes I know - naive)
She's been ill with a cardiac condition and I'm not sure she will make all her grades which makes me even more silly - . I'm usually a good planner and feel I have lost the balls I was juggling .
Anyone with any experience of this ?
Perhaps I'm worrying too much .

I've no experience of collecges starting the week after GCSE results. Which country are you in?

However, I would phone the college this term, explain you work in emergency services so are allocated this week without choice and that you have therefore booked to be away, and ask them what might happen about it. I'm sure you won't be the first this has happened to.

Contact the college and speak to the enrollment team. It may be possible for them to interview her for an alternative course before the end of July should she not get the grades. Also explain the health situation and they may be able to use her predicted grades instead of actual grades to put her onto the course she wants.

If she enrols after everyone else she will only have the choice of courses that have places left over

Most people in public services (including education) are pretty decent about emergency services and their time constraints. Ring and ask. Can't do any harm and may do some good.

I work in FE. Usually, we are so desperate to recruit (our funding is dependent on our enrolment numbers) we'll interview and enrol for several weeks after the start of term.

We used to say 4 GCSE C grades including English & Maths for a Level 3 course, 4 D grades for Level 2, any less than that, she'll be accepted onto Level 1. Some debate about what the new equivalent to C grade will be, probably grade 4.

Honestly, I don't think you need to worry. Am I right in thinking you'll be home when the GCSE results come out? If so, contact the college then with the results to either confirm she's been accepted onto her chosen level or to arrange an enrolment interview for when you get back. Missing one day at the beginning of term won't matter. If they start on a Friday, that will be admin, ice breakers etc and the real work will start the week after.

Auspiciouspanda that's incorrect. FE is not like university. We don't turn prospective students away because courses are "full". We'll either go with a really really big class/classes or if we can justify it on numbers and we can find an extra teacher/teachers, we'll split the groups. This year we've had 3 classes for level 1 catering, 5 for construction because we had so many applications and we can't afford to turn students away.
