(8 Posts)Looking for advice I’ve just failed the 1st stage of adoption, has I had said I’d smacked my own child on the top of her arm has a natural thing in the past.
Then the social worker said come back when u have practiced not to do it in the future
Can you understand why they failed you? Your ‘natural’ reaction is to smack a child if they’re naughty?
I’m not sure what advice you’re looking for? Take some parenting classes, work on anger management and gentle discipline techniques.
Would you think hitting your partner was ok, or them hitting you?
Hitting is a definite no no
Could you try with a different agency? I know adoption agencies are strict. How about fostering?
I’m a foster carer with an agency and if you said you hit your child there is no way you’d get through the assessment.
I am a social worker and saying you would smack a child is HUGE no no!! You need to think about what other behaviour management techniques you would use as smacking is not appropriate chastisement!
Are you actually surprised you failed your assessment?
