(10 Posts)Has anyone else had to wait a while for a first placement it's three months now I've been waiting and only been offered children out my age range. I was offered a respite for one night but due to miscommunication with the sws it didn't go ahead and I was not informed until the last minute .I know these things happen and it's not a problem but I just wondered what other people's experiences were please .
Have you gone with ss or an Ifa and are you ringing placements ?
Now many people have you said no to ?
I'm with the local authority and approved for three to nine ten year olds , I turned down one much older one which would not of been ok as I'm a single parent and my sw agreed and i turned down siblings and a very young baby. I refused the siblings as i have one room only and the baby was not suitable. I have been told it's not because I've turned them down and I was right to do so as my circumstances aren't suitable for them and I was given credit for honesty. I have not contacted placements myself but the sw has .
A lot of foster carers wrap in the first year so they tend to try and ensure you're first placement is very well matched in saying that though la are normally desperate to place.
I thought they were desperate for carers too ,the other issue is I was actually on the list as having a placement when I didn't.
I've started this year and had the same sort of wait, it's quite common, don't worry. I was really concerned but it's no reflection on you at all, is all about the matching! My advice would be to use the time to read up on things and do lots of nice things for yourself. When you start with placements you won't have time for that!
That's very coincidental as I've been reading and doing my folder and doing lots of e learning too . I've had a possible offer today and it sounds like a great match .
What are you approved for and what was your first placement like ?
Hi approved for one child, primary age. My first was a short placement and was lovely. This second one not so much! I'm waiting to hear about my possible third. Great that you've heard something now but things change all the time so don't worry if it doesn't work out!
Same as me 3 to 9 tho one child, I'm not worried just really looki g forward to it what were the problems with the second one in basic terms
Won't go into too much detail here but is usual sort of problems you can get. More difficult then anyone was prepared for!
