I read this article this morning on the BBC website and was horrified

The reason being is we have a 'care' system in the UK that is broken and not fit for purpose. Eg, 70% of sex workers have been in care. Children in care and Care Leavers are at increased risk of mental illness/self harm because of adverse background and on-going stress. There has been a 19% increase in Care Leavers turning up at homeless hostels because of Welfare cuts.

The situation for myself as a vulnerable child and adolescent in the 1960's and 1970's was appalling in the so called care system and the last thing that is needed now is a Foster Ambassador. Especially, as local authorities now have the legal right to privatise social service provision for vulnerable children and the dropping of safeguard checks. What is needed is a compassionate, child focused system that is adequately funded by government. Families need support and education so that they can stay together whenever possible rather than face stigma, poverty and prejudice from an uncaring society and it's institutions.
