Hi everyone,
As a new Foster Carer with a baby in placement, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on taking foster children on holiday.
My daughter and I haven't been on holiday ourselves for about 3 years and we desperately need a break away, however now we have baby with us obviously it complicates things.
I'd like to go away in the UK, for probably 4 or 5 days and was wondering if anyone has any advice or tips on holidaying whilst fostering and how does it work with regards to getting permission to take baby away?
Thanks in advance

We just ask our SW to ask Local Authority, give the address and off we go. Never been a problem.

You will find there usually isn't a problem if you holidaying in UK. It will only really affect the contact sessions with the birth parents, so you need to ask baby's SW. There are two ways of doing it, if you need respite and a holiday without the baby, then SW will find someone to take care of baby. If its a new placement, they probably wouldn't want to do this until the baby has "attached" to you. If you want to take baby with you then that is usually ok. Obviously it gets more complicated if you want to go abroad, but usually if its in the interests of the child, the LA will arrange for a passport. I know foster carers who have caravans, and go to their caravans at weekend. As it doesn't affect contact, they just go.
