We have been called today and asked to take a LO who is currently 2 days old. He was born 7 weeks early so is still in hospital, although there is talk of him getting discharged home on Tuesday.

in true style we are off on holiday for 2 weeks, so our new LO will have to go to other carers till we get home

Hope is for him to return home.

How exciting! He was born very early, so I hope he's OK.
We're waiting for news of our first placement - we thought it would happen last week, but the care order didn't come through.

Hope you have a lovely holiday, especially knowing there's a LO to come home to :)

thanks everyone - I am very surprised that he is being discharged so quickly, as babies at 33 weeks don't usually feed very well, but apparently he is doing really well :)

I'm hoping to meet his Mum tomorrow, and hopefully him too, but my car is poorly sick and is in the car hospital hopefully it is being discharged tomorrow too - since we need it for going away on Saturday - me stressed - not half!!

I plan to make the most of sleeping all night I am guessing that there won't be many full nights of that when I get back, and my own 3 DC's are on school hols so guess what - DH has to go to Norway for work Hmm

He is here :)

I was given some duff info so he is 5 and a half weeks rather than 3 weeks, was born 7 weeks early so still a tiny tot.

Didn't get to meet his parent's before I left, but did that today and they are a nice couple, His Mum isn't doing so great at the minute, and there is now questioning if him being placed in his Mum's town of residence is the best thing for them both, although Mum was saying that she feels much happier that he is close by so who knows!!

He is a very settled baby (no withdrawal due to Mum lowering her methadone and avoiding using) and feeds well, and reportedly sleeps brilliant too (I will let you know in the morning!!) He is very very sweet

Aww, glad he's doing OK, especially re the withdrawal.
Our first placement has turned out to be respite for 3 yr old twins, so not quite what we were expecting, but it's turned out to be a lot of fun!

SS - I am sure that you will have a placement soon, although I hate the waiting about too so ((hugs)) to you!!

Botter - 3 year old twins sound like fantastic fun :) I am glad that you are enjoying yourself :)

P99 - thank - certainly much easier all round than our last placement!!

Your post has made me "broody" again! It's fantastic to read that drug addicted babies can be okay - I know lots of foster carers refuse point blank to take them but I know from experience that the hard work DOES pay off in the end, and your post could encourage people to have a go. My own current placement is at the end of a long road through withdrawal and he's the loveliest baby you could ever meet!

Enjoy those cuddles!

I am loving the cuddles even the ones that still have me up at 1am!

He really has done so well he is 6 weeks old today and is now over 6lb7oz (he was 4lbs6oz at birth)

Glad you are enjoying your little house guest too, and well done getting him down the road of withdrawing
