Preferably recipes I can knock together in the 15 minutes between getting in from work and the DDs killing each other through hunger-driven aggression.

I love this gnocchi I add mushrooms and its still lovely without the cheese.

Pasta pesto with salmon and broccoli (and/or peas) (I microwave the salmon from frozen, only takes a few mins) Also good with sauteed courgettes.

Spaghetti carbonara (we make ours with eggs, nutmeg, fried pancetta with a splash of white wine or Noilly Prat - no cream) You can add peas to this to make it more balance or serve with salad.

Spaghetti with prawns, courgettes, lemon juice and dill. Cut courgettes into thin matchsticks and saute in olive oil for 1-2mins just to soften slightly. Add prawns to warm through and scatter over chopped dill, lemon juice to taste.

Ooh Savoy, that looks good. I'll make that next week.

I also do tuna pasta, basic version is simmer tin of toms with some herbs while pasta cooking, add tins of sweetcorn and tuna for last minute. Can also dice some carrot and add to cook with pasta. Even nicer if you have some proper tomato sauce hanging around to make it with but dcs wolf down either way.

sauteed leeks and/or mushroom then stir on a dollop of natural yog after it is off the heat makes a super quick creamy one.
my kids love fried spaghetti (I think it has a real italian name too!), so I cook double quantitites when we have spag and meatball, then next day beat a couple of eggs with grated parmesan, put in the cold cooked spagheti, then fry in a thin flat disc like a frittata (could add chopped things too). put on plate and serve in wedges.

A variation if Nigel Slater's sausage pasta. Basically get some decent sausages, take them out of their skins and break into chunks into some olive oil that's been heating in a frying pan. When cooked add wholegrain mustard, cream, some fresh basil or dried chilli flakes if you're feeling sassy and some cream or creme fraiche. Tip in cooked pasta and mix it all up. It is mega simple & delicious.

I make a tuna pasta bake. This does 2, so maybe double for 4. Fry a chopped onion and a couple of chopped/pressed garlic cloves until soft, add a tin of chopped tomatoes, some mixed herbs, and a bit of salt and pepper, simmer for a few minutes, add a tin of tuna and mix well. Mix with some cooked pasta shapes, turn into an oven dish and top with grated cheese. Then you can either put in the oven to heat and brown cheese or heat through in the microwave and put under the grill to brown. Nice with salad or some frozen peas and/or sweetcorn.

What about aubergines?

My favourite veg, probably very little nutritional value, but tasty and with nice slimey texture and goes well with pasta.

My mum used to make fried egg and spaghetti. She ended up making it every time my very fussy best friend came over, since she loved it.

Tonight's tea, as defined by what was in the veg bag and having some bacon in the fridge - chopped up bacon, fry with chopped leek, add some roughly chopped spinach, stir till it's all cooked, add a splat of creme fraiche and some Parmesan.

Came out very nicely.

To be honest, with pasta you can chuck anything in and it'll go together. Cheese is the glue of life. Well, my life.

Spaghetti, garlic, chillies, mackerel, rocket and then croutons when serving... Yum!

TheOriginalPan Fri 30-Nov-12 21:27:08

Melt butter, add some garlic, red chilli, crab, coriander, cook for a bit, add a generous splash of tequila, stir thru some fresh spaghetti or tagliatelle. Dive in!

We eat this a lot:

I don't put chilli in it when I cook it as DD doesn't like chilli but I sprinkle those dried chilli flakes on my portion afterwards.
