J.-C. Novelli at Auberge du Lac

I have just returned from the most fantastic lunch at Auberge du Lac. It was to celebrate DH's 40th birthday and it was absolutely delicious. The sun shone so we ate out on the terrace overlooking the lake with huge parasols for shade. We were coming to the end of our meal when Novelli appeared so he was actually in the kitchen!! Much excited chatter from the "ladies who lunch" and he really is gorgeous. Saw him chatting to a chef outside as we left but was too British to go on to him to say what a great meal we'd had.

If you get the chance to go I would wholeheartedly recommend it - £28.50 for three courses including two glasses of wine and coffee. Ladies' Day on a Thursday so you get a free cocktail too! Am looking forward to returning very soon.

Don't know how often he is there himself, but he's certainly come out to chat a couple of times when I've been in - always very friendly.

Edam - I'm sure you will love it as each course was sublime (even the coffee with the steamed milk). My strawberry trifle (in a shot glass) with kirsch ice cream, thin meringue base, fresh strawberries and puree (complete with signature spun sugar) was outstanding.

We were just discussing when to return!
