my ds only has water unless we got to Mothers and Toddlers where he has squash. Not a good idea to get them used to this imo

I wouldn't bother, just give water instead because otherwise she'll develop a taste for it, imo

does it still have to be cooled boiled water or tap water?

I just gave tap water.

I think tap water is fine at this age

Is jen93 for real? Or desperately trying to give her dd bad teeth? (See 'When is it OK to give chocoloate thread')

can tap water be used for making up milk then?

Eh? I doubt for a second that any mum is trying to give their child rotten teeth.

Report
hercules · 06/07/2005 13:18

I believe it would still need to be boiled because milk has the bacteria.

Jen, tonnes of mummies give their babies dilute squash. Personally, I did watered down apple juice from about a year, but water's best. I agree baby juice is v expensive - I never bought it.

but what is this "baby juice"? why do people buy it?

Report
jessicaandbumpsmummy · 06/07/2005 13:36

jess doesnt like it. she doesnt like plain water either - 1oz of squash to 8oz water

it is bought because it contains only fruit juice, has no added sugar or other additives and some babies refuse to take water (it is sold in small bottles so there isnt a lot of waste). I personally persevered with water and dd takes this fine now. She occasionally has watered down juice for a change but has water most often.

I also see no harm in offering the odd chocolate button and even offered the odd wotsit or quaver as a finger food (shock horror!!).

If you arent going to use water, the next best thing would be diluted unsweetened fresh fruit juice as it has no nasty sweeteners or added sugars either.
