i fing that baby juice is quite expensive at what age can dd have adult squash. (dd is 9 months)

hercules Wed 06-Jul-05 13:12:02

just give water.

jessicaandbumpsmummy Wed 06-Jul-05 13:12:06

very watery is fine. jess has been on it since 6 months

compo Wed 06-Jul-05 13:12:07

my ds only has water unless we got to Mothers and Toddlers where he has squash. Not a good idea to get them used to this imo

bundle Wed 06-Jul-05 13:12:21

I wouldn't bother, just give water instead because otherwise she'll develop a taste for it, imo

jen93 Wed 06-Jul-05 13:14:27

does it still have to be cooled boiled water or tap water?

hercules Wed 06-Jul-05 13:15:04

I just gave tap water.

compo Wed 06-Jul-05 13:15:12

I think tap water is fine at this age

titchy Wed 06-Jul-05 13:16:43

Is jen93 for real? Or desperately trying to give her dd bad teeth? (See 'When is it OK to give chocoloate thread')

jen93 Wed 06-Jul-05 13:17:07

can tap water be used for making up milk then?

hercules Wed 06-Jul-05 13:17:43

Eh? I doubt for a second that any mum is trying to give their child rotten teeth.

hercules Wed 06-Jul-05 13:18:15

I believe it would still need to be boiled because milk has the bacteria.

jen93 Wed 06-Jul-05 13:24:38

titchy i think your comment was a bit harsh you may be the perfect mother but im afraid not everyone can be like you

tassis Wed 06-Jul-05 13:24:52

I think it was a genuine question, titchy

jessicaandbumpsmummy Wed 06-Jul-05 13:25:43

well titchy - am i giving jess bad teeth because i let her have 5 chocolate buttons and squash?! Get real.....

tassis Wed 06-Jul-05 13:26:32

Jen, tonnes of mummies give their babies dilute squash. Personally, I did watered down apple juice from about a year, but water's best. I agree baby juice is v expensive - I never bought it.

bundle Wed 06-Jul-05 13:28:01

but what is this "baby juice"? why do people buy it?

jessicaandbumpsmummy Wed 06-Jul-05 13:36:54

jess doesnt like it. she doesnt like plain water either - 1oz of squash to 8oz water

Seona1973 Wed 06-Jul-05 13:39:32

it is bought because it contains only fruit juice, has no added sugar or other additives and some babies refuse to take water (it is sold in small bottles so there isnt a lot of waste). I personally persevered with water and dd takes this fine now. She occasionally has watered down juice for a change but has water most often.

I also see no harm in offering the odd chocolate button and even offered the odd wotsit or quaver as a finger food (shock horror!!).

If you arent going to use water, the next best thing would be diluted unsweetened fresh fruit juice as it has no nasty sweeteners or added sugars either.

OK Sorry didn't mean to offend you Jen, just thought it odd that you posted two very similar threads and I haven't seen you round here before....
