Any good?

Yeah, it's alright.

It's still just a crumble at the end of the day, so if you like crumbles you'll like this.

Yep, love crumbles and am making it for a sweet-toothed friend who adores them. The fudge works ok then? Worth adding?

Anyone? Just dithering over my food order ...

I haven't made that recipe but I have made an apple crumble with toffee. Just chuck in any sort (Thorntons is yummy and easy to smash into different sized pieces) along with the apples. Leave some decent sized pieces as they go all yummy-chewy mmmmmm.

Toffee better than fudge then? What kind of apples would you use? Granny smith/braeburn rather than sweeter ones I guess?

I always use Bramley cooking apples, not sure why though! Also, never tried fudge (but may give it a go now) but I know that toffee works.

All I can get is toffees in bags on ocado - no slabs of toffee. Shall i go for the fudge?

I do this but my own made up recipe - apples and rock hard budget toffees scattered throughout - eg Sainsburys basic toffee. Topping, cook, custard. Never any seconds!

So these would work would they WW, just chucked in as they are?

Better than fudge you reckon?

Or Werthers??

TwoSilverBalloons Thu 05-Nov-09 21:38:29

Oh, yeah any old toffee does it, I've used werthers before. Just smash them up a bit (before you unwrap them) with a rolling pin to get a bit of variety in sizes.
I'm sure fudge would be fine but I know that toffee def is!

Waswondering Thu 05-Nov-09 21:43:08

Yes - honestly, the hardest toffees you can get are good too, the type that break fillings. They turn into puddles of goo! Mmmm

franch Thu 05-Nov-09 21:49:12

Thanks all I've ordered Werthers (embarrassing amount of prevarication but always nervous making something new to take to someone else's house)

franch Thu 05-Nov-09 21:50:28

Oh one last question blush - OK to assemble this the day before, then cook it at said friend's house?

Waswondering Thu 05-Nov-09 22:02:47

Yes - but maybe make one as well for that night for you to road test first - y'know!

Make sure the apple isfully covered by the crumble.

Enjoy!

Oh all right then WW wink

Made it with Werthers, used my mum's topping recipe instead of Gary's (but with walnuts in) and it was gorgeous. Thanks for all the advice!
