Cooking a beef and red wine casserole in the slow cooker. It's still very watery and normally I would use gravy granules to thicken it but I have just found out I don't have any, nor cornflour.

I have normal plain flour though. Can anyone tell me what to do with it so I don't get lumps!!

cold water and flour, make into a pate then add it slowly to your slow cooker

Could always transfer to the hob and bubble furiously for a few minutes

enjoy!! mmmm

top tip from my friend who was round recently when I had a pathetically thin casserole and was trying to Do Something With It:

Stir in a bit of bisto gravy granules - instantly thickened - brilliant - no messing around with flour and water (and I'm coeliac so can't have flour).

I was gobsmacked - mainly that I'd got to 40 without knowing how to do this! grin

rub butter into flour. add slowly in 'pieces'.

Tomato paste, but only when you take the casserole out of the slow cooker.
