It is normal, my ds did not like the baby rice on its own but loved it once I started mixing it with fruit. I followed the Gina Ford weaning book which was really useful, it recommends introducing a new food every 3 days. I made all my own food (much cheaper) but if you want to use jars, I would recommend the Heinz Organic range for fruit & veg as for the next month you will only be feeding him fruit & veg anyway. Good luck!

If he's not interested then he's probably not ready for solids. or maybe he just doens't like baby rice? if you think he is definitely ready why not try him with a pure fruit puree, either jars or home made. there are lots of makes which are just fruit and water with no other added ingredients.

he may not have been interested if he had only just had his bottle.

you can try not giving him the whole bottle, and then doing it... or give it to him between feeds.

I think a lot of babies aren't that keen to start with... it's a bit odd for them when they're just used to drinking milk!

you might wanna try just pureeing some carrot or something to start with, it'll be cheaper than jars if he doesn't want it! Also, to start with they only want small amounts and aren't jars too much for one feed?

HI mosschops!
I also started weaning dd2 yesterday - on the baby rice. It's all new to them and it will take a while before he is going for it - I agree about the timing thing too - try interrupting a feed with the baby rice and see if it's any better - I gave dd2 just a few minutes on the boob so she wasn't hysterical then gave her the baby rice. V vv messy, I had forgotten about that! And then finished her ( milk) feed after the rice.
Good luck hope it all goes well!!

I used to give a breast feed then one hour later try baby rice mixed with pear or what ever.
My theory bieng that the tummy would be empty and baby would be more likely to try food.
I made all my own food so cant recommend any jars because i wouldnt have a clue. (sorry)

My dd hated plain baby rice. I followed Gina Ford routine and persevered with plain rice for a week then I used a baby rice pre-mixed with raspberry and she wolfed it down. Due to time constraints have gone for the easy option and used Heinz organic range whereas last time I pureed fresh veg and froze it. Bit worried that she has not been introduced to each veg individually but couldn't find any brand that did one veg on its own. Ds will eat absolutely anything so am hoping I haven't made a huge mistake by doing it this way.

it's so exzciting when they have their first taste of food - or at least yu hope they do but it goes all over their faces!! My ds loved mashed banana and those heinz tins of pudding - egg custard, apple and orange etc. Although don't forget to read what they say on the tin - often they say from 4 months but when you look at the ingredients they list things like egg, gluten which shouldn't be given til 6 months

HI mosschops! ds wasn't too fussed on baby rice 1st few tries as he found the whole texture thing a bit strange and he is still getting used to it, he now prefers babyrice to carrot etc as i think he still finds these a bit strong. could tell you this another time, but thought i'd join your thread!!

I gave ds3 a porridge made with ground rice and breastmilk today and he loved it, gave me a big smile! I tasted it and it was quite sweet, nicer than packet baby rice.
