Ideas on what to give my 20 month old.

Newbarnsleygirl · 11/06/2005 18:28

Getting a bit bored with the same old thing and I'm running out of ideas.

What do you give your children? Do you have a weekly meal planner? If you do have a meal planner do you do this week in week out?

I'm desperate for help as dd is not eating well atm and I'm sure it's because she's bored of the same old thing and lack of consistency with her meals.

Thanks

What sort of things is she eating that she's bored with?

Like tonight she had fish fingers and mash, I class that as a quick meal but she didn't eat it.

Other quickies I use are tinned spaghetti, baked beans (but she loves them) There's a few.

I sometimes make batches of stuff up for her and freeze them which again is very easy but I was hoping to stop doing that and just cook fresh stuff.

She quite likes sweet things. For example she likes a chicken and peach casserole I do which obviously has peaches in it and peppers. Also spag bol, pizza.

She also really loves toast, cereal, milk, yoghurts.

If someone could help me come up with some ideas that would be really appreciated.

You already have lol!

Colditz, what do you put in special fried rice?
DD will not eat eggs in any shape or form.

She also won't eat fish apart from fish fingers.

Mud, do you make your own Humous or just buy it?

I buy it

did you want meals that need more thought or just the quick types - to be honest I find that pasta an pesto with cheese and mixed veg is a great mainstay for all the kids

DD can be funny with pasta at times so I never like to rely on it for a meal as there's no g'tee she'll eat it. Although it would be easier if she did.

Will she be ok to eat pesto? I know they put pine nuts in it.

Quick meals would be good really because we don't normally have proper dinners becuase dh is away most of the time.

pine nuts aren't nuts - they are seeds and anyway she's 20 months old, the only nuts she should be avoiding are peanuts (unless family history of nut allergy of course) basically she can eat whatever you are eating - I often give my kids leftovers -

just remembered another one that always go down well - poached salmon - flaked of course to check for bones - its very sweet fish

I'll try Pesto then.

Will give the poached salmon a try as well. Do I buy it fresh over the counter, in a packet or tin?

tend to buy it when its on buy one get one free in sainsbury's and I buy extra and freeze it. I never buy the steaks (the roundish ones) but the ones that look like they're slices along the fish if its laid flat IYKWIM becaues there's rarely any bones in those

Mine's being fussy too, it seems like i'm throwing so much food away and he doesn't just have a bit then refuse to eat, he will not touch it at all and gets stroppy throwing it across the room

Really struggling at the moment and worried he's not getting the nutrients he needs.

Things I know he will eat are : Fruit, chocolate/sweets & McDonalds chips!!!

What about

tuna sarnies
lasagne
minced beef, gravy, veg and mash
morrocan lamb (quite sweet - minced lamb, any veg, tinned toms, cinammon, apricots and sultanas)
bagels with cream cheese
Butternut squash (also sweet) cooked with bacon, rice and veg stock

Sorry these are a bit rubbish, was trying to think of ds's fave meals!

oh yes bagels go down a storm here with marmite or cream cheese (they are a kind of sweetish bread roll)

mccain oven chips just have potatoes and sunflower oil in them

DD loves the scandinavian meatballs you can buy in sainsburys too - they have a chicken and herb version or a pork and beef version - she gets them cos of DSs - tbh once there's older siblings you can't be as careful with food because they feed her when you aren't looking

I use dried apricots, just cook it slowly for a while

Bagels are kind of doughnut shaped chewy bread that you toast, can put anything on them but quite filling so I usually half one half length-ways.

mmmm meatballs my favourite, good with ikea gravy or tom sauce and pasta!
