I read somewhere for an extra special buttercream mix half/half buttercream & chocolate ganache

Can't remember where and I'm working on a cake for my SIL's 30th,

just wondered had anyone tried this or should I stick to my tried and tested chocolate buttercream recipe

You could make your usual buttercream and a small batch of ganache and combine a little bit of the buttercream with the ganache and see what you reckon.

Sounds delicious.

I want a cake.

Just make ganache, far nicer than buttercream

Thanks for your replies,

need to ice cake, wasn't sure about icing over ganache hmm,
have put so much effort in so far don't want to mess up now, might stick to my usual and do a dummy run for next cake I do

just use ganache - it sets solid and thick and shiny, no need for icing too.

you can pipe on ganache once it's set if you wanted to write Happy Birthday Sis or sommat though

Have't to Ice as I'm doing the cake as a shoe box,

think I'll stick to buttercream this time, was just curious to see if anyone had ever tried this

Now I need to sort out my actual cake recipe, I thought I was all organised[panic setting in]
