Don't use spreadable or salted butter.
Add a flavouring, citrus rind, cocoa, vanilla. Drop of milk to thin it a little.

Unsalted butter, melt it first, then beat the icing sugar very very vigourously.

Those Sainsbury's cupcakes are delicious! Cream cheese frosting, some with vanilla, some with cocoa powder and some with strawberry jam stirred in! Om nom nom!

I don't melt the butter, just soften a bit in the microwave, then mix in the icing sugar adding a drop of milk (about 1 tbsp) to thin it down a bit to a clotted cream consistency. Add a couple tbsp's of cocoa powder for chocolate butter cream.
