The kids' dinner hasn't gone to plan.

Have fish, rice and coconut mik baking in the oven. Rice still raw after 20 minutes.

Recoverable or chip shop?

whoops, blush

What kind of rice is it? I would expect rice to take much longer than 20 mins in oven, tbh.

Ivykaty44 Mon 05-Oct-09 16:46:17

What gas mark etc?

Would cook for longer than 20 minutes - more like an hour on gas5 smile

FABIsInTraining Mon 05-Oct-09 16:47:21

I just wasn't thinking.

Of course rice will take longer. Oops.

It is blinking risotto rice as well.

I cook my risotto on hob then finish it off in oven, takes less time ime

pushmepullyou Mon 05-Oct-09 16:48:46

If the fish is in fillets I would probably extricate them from the mix and bung the rice and coconut milk in the microwave for a bit.

Or finish it off on the hob?

OmicronPersei8yourbrain Mon 05-Oct-09 16:49:11

Can you get on the hob? A bit more liquid and another 10 minutes?

FABIsInTraining Mon 05-Oct-09 16:51:48

Oh bugger.

If I drain the rice and milk into a pan, what then?

FABIsInTraining Mon 05-Oct-09 16:53:04

This will teach me to try and make up a recipe with left over stuff. (Muffins are fab btw.)

pushmepullyou Mon 05-Oct-09 16:54:44

If it's risotto rice you should be OK to cook it as if it was risotto, so on a low heat stirring frequently and adding a bit more hot water/stock/milk if it starts to dry up.

Sounds lovely though, am very envy as we only have toast and cabbage in the house!

FABIsInTraining Mon 05-Oct-09 16:59:09

I now have the rice and more coconut milk on the hob. How long do you reckon?

pushmepullyou Mon 05-Oct-09 17:01:18

A risotto is usually about 20-25 minutes from scratch so probably a bit less than that. Main thing to watch is that it doesn't get to dry and burn on the back of the pan.

FABIsInTraining Mon 05-Oct-09 17:03:20

Oh heck. I am tempted to give up.

Poor kids will be starving.

liahgen Mon 05-Oct-09 17:15:26

How is it coming on?

Perhaps tip some liquid out into a jug, the pour it in bit by bit as it cooks iyswim

FABIsInTraining Mon 05-Oct-09 17:17:42

Is served. DS1 and I like it.

DD and DS2 don't. No surprises there.

liahgen Mon 05-Oct-09 17:18:44

oh well, that would have happened whatever yu had cooked I guess.

At least it cooked.

FABIsInTraining Mon 05-Oct-09 17:27:39

I just had some more. It is yummy grin.

pushmepullyou Mon 05-Oct-09 21:29:21

Hooray! All worth it then grin

We had cabbage on toast chez pushme
