I would like to cook bobotie for tea tonight. I don't have any curry powder as I never use it. Can I use garam masala instead or a mix of other stuff?
I have cumin, coriander, tumeric, cinnamon, cloves etc?

As i understand it (not an expert disclaimer), garam masala IS a mixture of other spices eg cumin, coriander etc, so it wouldnt make much difference whether you used one or the other? if it was me I would use the same quantity garam masala as it asks for curry powder but no idea if thats a good thing to do or not!

Re: the chutney, does the recipe not specify what kind of chutney? All types of chutney are so different. Mango chutney is a bit different to what you would stick on your cheese sarnies.

Do you have any ginger root or garlic? Mango chutney would probably be fine no matter what.
