right, I've got the jars, now what?

mmm, made some lovely tomato sauce yesterday evening with the zillion tomatoes dh grew in the garden this summer, got the jars this afternoon to store them and realised we don't quite know how to do this blush.
A friend of mine said: clean the jars, then put the hot sauce in them, close them and boil them for 45 minutes. Take them out and turn them upside down, then back the right way round once they are cooled down.

So far so good only it looks like we can only do two jars at a time in the pan we have so we're going to be here all night.

Is it possible tod othem in the oven instead somehow? I did google it and have come across lots of contradictive ways.
