Good Fudge and Shortbread Recipes Needed Please.

Am hoping to make both as Christmas presents this year, but having never made either of them before, i need good foolproof recipes please.

My friend makes great shortbread and she gave me her recipe but I just cant make it like she does - I am beginning to think she has deliberately missed something from the recipe!
