Yes they are cooked. We mash them up a bit and spread on toast, or serve with mashed potato. The DDs love the ones that come in tomato sauce, also the tins of mackerel - which are cheaper.

DH eats them straight out of the tin shock

My DH also just eats them straight out of the tin.

I like to mash them up with a bit of mayo, grated carrot, sweetcorn, black pepper and some lemon juice. Spread on toast. YUM.

Was going to say that you can eat the bones, and they make it really rich in calcium.

You can fry some spring onions, garlic, possibly, onion, chili and then add sardines and can of tomatoes, to make a sardine sauce to serve with rice.

I serve them with any kind of pasta, tossed with assorted veggies. Nice with a putinesca (sp?) type sauce or even a creamy one, plus olives, fresh herbs.
