Waking after weaned

My 4 1/2 month old has started waking twice in the night, (he was sleeping through) i have just started weaning him and he is having 3 meals a day with milk, (he loves his food, can not get enough!)

Does anybody know why he should be waking at 2am and 4am, i would have thought he would be sleeping through.

Should i be giving him a supper! his tea is at 5pm

Any suggestions

It's just about being four months old - babies do this regardless of whether they're eating food or not. They are just more aware of the world and don't settle straight back to sleep if they wake, they look around, then don't know how to get themselves back off to sleep again.

Please don't rush him into eating food - milk should provide the majority of his nutrition for the first year of his life. The guidelines say that babies shouldn't have anything but milk for the first six months.

If he's already on three meals a day, is he dropping back on his milk intake? This may well affect how full he feels - weaning food is traditionally not as calorific as breastmilk or infant formula. I wouldn't give him supper as well, and I'd be tempted to reevaluate giving him three meals a day too.

Does he have a bottle before he goes to bed?

Yes he has a bottle at 7pm, he refuses one later. I have just spoken to my Health visitor about it, she recommends that i ignore him, he has got into a habit. So i will give this a go and see what happens.

my ds used to it twice every night till 8 months< dropped to 1 and then stopped himself naturally.

The past fewdays my ds has been sleeping 11/12 hours a night, so it was just a phase he was going through, thanks for the advice.
