Quick q - what does 'normal' pumpkin flesh (?) look like?

I am making a pumpkin soup and have just peeled and cubed the pumpkin and the flesh looks a little spongey to me.

I was expecting it to be more dense like butternut squash?? Just need reassurance that pumpkin is supposed to look like this as this is the first time I've used it in cooking.

I do have a squash that I can use but would prefer to use up this pumpkin!

TIA smile

Yes pumpkin is softer than squash, more fibrous too, makes gorgeous soup!

Ok - reporting back. Pumpkin MUST be off, as the soup base (lemongrass, chilli, ginger, garlic, coriander etc etc) tastes lovely, but the pumpkin tastes of nothing, like eating wet sponge. I did have my suspicions as it felt too light, not dense enough, and I think I may have just picked a bad one.

So annoying as soup is finished and smells lovely, just tastes a bit bleh. should have used the butternut squash after all...

Will try again with a 'better' pumpkin!
