Another jam question

Ok, I followed the tips and instructions on my recipe and have made my plum jam. It tastes quite nice but the fruit bits (mostly skin I'd guess) are very chewy - is this normal?

Would I be better sieving the plums at the end. Will this harm the jam in any way or cool it down too much
