Can you cook and what is the 'poshest' thing you have made?

I can cook but tend not to as DH is a chef and does all the cooking at home as well as the restaurant.

I used to do lots of cooking and have friends round and once did a 7 course Chinese Banquet which was fab. I have also made a profiterole wedding cake but ended up in A&E with caramel burns on my fingers!

So, tell me all and feel free to show off.

Also a Yule Log - that was from hell, tho.

I can cook, don't know what would be considered posh though. Tend to just stick to traditional stuff for big meals, roasts or meat dishes, that sort of thing. I do pretty good cakes but I can't do icing, really want to learn, I can ice a cupcake but that's about my limit.

Not very posh, but the most difficult thing I've made recently was a Thomas cake for ds' 2nd birthday. Final result was good, but it was pretty stressful!

i can cook well not meaning to be big headed but its my only talent! i can cook most thing but i make a wicked lasagna and a good chilli shreadded beef.

I used to coo k for a living but I don't have the kitchen capacity or facilities (sh&&ty cermaic hob and no bench space ) at present. I am desparate to get in someone's kitchen over here, and some people have al fresco kitchens, and do some good fish and Italian and baked cheesecakes

ive recently got quite good at cooking for lots of people. but i dont know what a posh meal is.

Still trying to think of anything posh I have cooked. I did a very posh bbq a couple of weeks ago, does that count? tiger prawns, salmon, lamb kebabs in a marinade I invented from what I had in the fridge, then mars bar mousse for pud, yum.

well my bbq was posh because we used real plates instead of paper and linen napkins, I think it's mainly the surroundings that make it posh, but good ingredients help.

i dont cook.... dh is a chef - its his job! he doesnt cook posh at home tho - we love our meat and veg or salads!

my brother and i once cooked a chinese banquet for christmas lunch.it was amazing,so simple and delicious.id recommend it..except that you dont really get a chance to sit down and eat with everyone else

for the first time ever he made me stick to recipes and because i wasnt familiar with the ingredients i wasnt able to make things up /substitute as i would otherwise.

and omg it was fantastic.no special skills required atall..except for timing it all and being well prepared.we used ken homs book.
my fav things were a steeped corn fed chicken with a dipping sauce,cucumber stuffed with pork and aubergines in spicy beany stuff.yummmmm

mmmm beans on toast. I make my own baked beans, except they're not baked they're just simmered for ages, yummy.

One of the most interesting things I have made was a chicken terrine with pancetta for Christmas which looked really professional and tasted divine.

Yes I'd say I can cook, I'm not as good as my MIL who doesn't really use receipes, but I can follow a receipe and it turns out okay.

Don't know about posh but trickyish / slightly fiddly / slightly different from the every day dinner things I've made have been:

Simmel cake (traditional mothers day fruit cake)
piccalli
picked vegetables
my own flavoured breads
beef wellington
curries and all the bits that go with it (how many speces?!!!!!!
chicken and lemon pie
monkfish wrapped in parma ham and stuffed with sun dried tomatoes etc
horseraddish dumplings with seville orange zest
cabbage pie

and basic but I do good roasts and always do something a bit different with veg, a good spag bol , shepherds pie, moussaka, and chilli, a decent bit of breaded parmesan chicken and home made tomato sauce & pasta.

Chinese for Christmas sounds like a fab idea, but not sure I could sell it to the family who come to me, I'd love it though. I did a dinner party course at Leiths once and have cooked quite a few posh things for friends and family for that. Have done sushi, boned and stuffed chicken, made crab ravioli and we did a really lovely ginger and chocolate roulade which you can also make with cointreau.

no idea what posh means but I can cook, if it means following a recipe... not very good at opening fridge and seeing mince, fresh spaghetti and onions and thinking "ooh spag bol!"

The best I ever did was to pull off a dinner party for 12 for new year eve 1999 when DS was just 2 weeks old -- and he was my first... was quite proud that I got that together and it was all edible!!

parmesan chicken is v, v easy, I'll post receipe in the recipe section for you.

I made something, a fish I think, wrapped in banana leav es once, that was fiddly and very hard to find banana leaves but have to say it was lovely.

When I said 'posh', I didnt really mean 'posh' hence the inverted commas! I meant most adventurous, I think. Everyone can cook to some extent in that you whack a few things together for the children and make their dinner So, I think I meant more the sort of thing you would do for a special meal or if you had friends over.

Yes, Suzy, it was a croque embouche and as I was dipping the profiteroles in the caramel, I dropped it and caught it with my other hand forgetting how hot it would be. Tasted yummy though!!
