BLW: any reason against "feeding" runny foods like yoghurt if following BLW?

Hello
I am BLWing my DD2.
Going really well, she loves peaches, plums, nectarines, cucumber, sweet potato. All good.

One question: is there a specific reason why I cannot "feed" her yoghurt or porridge with a spoon? She is handling the fruit and veg I am giving her brilliantly, but I would like to add other foods like yoghurt and am wondering if I will undermine the BLW if I start to spoon-feed that?

Thx

Nah, it will be fine.

You might want to load the spoon and give it to her so that she can feed herself - my BLWed DS2 (9mo) does this. Otherwise, depending on how runny the yoghurt is, he just picks up the pot and drinks it!

I do hold the pot and his cup tbh or else he would get himself/me/the kitchen completely covered in food. But I just guide his hand/s, so he still holds it and only offer it to him when he reaches out.

Porridge is fine 'cos I make it so stodgy he uses his hands!

You can still offer runny food when BLW, I think the point is more about her feeding herself food rather than what type of food she eats. After all, we eat runny food too!

if you are in control of the spoon it's not strictly BLW
but that might not matter to you

if you load the spoon and hand it to her and/or let her dig in with her hands then she is still in charge and it's still BLW

greek yoghurt is great for pre-loading on to spoons as it's so thick it doesn't run off when they turn it upside down

porridge can be eaten quite effectively with the hands, but I preferred mini shredded wheat (which have no added salt/sugar etc) sploshed with milk to make them soft

NB if she is >6mo you can give her almost anything anyway - toast, rice cakes, breadsticks, cheese. Just avoid nuts, honey, choky things like whole grapes and anything with too much salt.

I believe that practicality should rule in most things baby-related. Nothing to do with babies is meant to be that prescriptive. You are not going to traumatise your baby by feeding her her yoghurt. If she likes yoghurt and knows the only way to get it is by being fed, she won't mind being fed, surely?
