How can I make Houmous from a packet of chickpeas rather than a can?

Every recipe I have found says use canned chickpeas, but I have a massive bag of chickpeas I need to use and no idea how (never used them before) Thanks

You probably have to cook or soak them or something.

you have to soak them for at least 4 hours.
other than that, it's the same.

There should be soaking and cooking instructions on the bag -- follow those and then take a can's worth of cooked chickpeas and follow the recipe that uses canned.

I think the last time I used dried chickpeas I soaked overnight and then had to boil them for an hour or two. After which I decided that I don't care if the curry recipe said dried ones tasted better and went back to buying cans.grin

So long as you cook them long enough that they aren't hard when you try to eat one, it should be ok.

And homemade hummus is lovely - haven't done it for ages cos DH doesn't like raw garlic and its not much use without.
