My DD is hungry ALL the time!!!!

My DD is 4 1/2 and seems to want to eat all the time. She has always had a good appetite but I am concerned that as she starts school in September she will not have the 'running buffet' that seems to exist at home!

For example at 7am she has breakfast (bowl of cereal) at 8.30am she will say she is hungry (she will have some fruit) then by 10/10.30 she will want something else (glass of milk and another snack) then lunch at 12/12.30 (pasta/ham/bread/ cheese/ravioli/) then in the afternoon at about 3pm (another snack and drink) then dinner at 5pm and again another top up at 6.30 before bed and bath at 7/7.30.

Is this normal?

Her brother also consumes a lot but is less bothered by snacks.

Any suggestions/comments greatly received!

Doesn't sound abnormal for a growing girl. Is she thirsty and mistaking it for hunger?

Some children are snackers, some aren't. If she's otherwise well and healthy then I wouldn't be concerned.

My DD also 4 1/2 has an appetite like a horse for about 3 weeks now but has eased off for the moment. When she starts School in September she'll have the following:
Milk on getting up
Breakfast - Cereal
Mid Morning fruit snack - school provide I think (make note to double check)
Lunch
Mid afternoon fruit
Possibly something after school
Dinner

Hopefully that's it. At school they should get the free fruit so will have snacks there to.
You'll find it'll work don't worry, as long as she is using the energy up there shouldn't be a problem.

Schools only give fruit once a day and you can have milk delivered for them.

Maybe it is an age thing as my 4 year old has started having milk throughout the day too.

Thanks posters. She is a healthy girl and no other problems. Just worried she will be hungry when she goes to school!

She wants to have a school dinner and I will pack a couple of snacks in her bag if she gets peckish. I have signed up for the milk too as she has always liked milk! (Perhaps a growth spurt at the moment as well as she is asking for seconds).
