Red chard - what can I do with it?

Got a great big bag in Abel & Cole box. I know it can be used as salad, but have also got a large lettuce and some bagged salad and there's only so much salad a girl can eat!

Am I right in thinking it can be steamed and used like spinach? If so, could I freeze it once cooked?

Is it the same as swiss chard? If so-
soup
or
fritters (quite a lot of prep required for this one though)
or
pasta sauce

Thanks MadameStripes the fritters sound lovely but might be too much work while looking after a small baby (or do I mean I'm too lazy? ) The soup and pasta recipes sound easy though. Think I might try the pasta one tonight.

I use the stalks in things like bolognese or lasagne and the leaves we have as greens like spinach.

Stir fry in butter and garlic.

If the stalks are quite thick, cut them from the leaves, stirfry for 1min, add the leaves stirfry for another min or until wilted.

2 mins - lovely, couldn't be easier.

We sometimes just have it as a green starter.

I make chard in cheesy sauce - kinda like cauli cheese. I take all the green bits off then steam the stalks until they are soft then bung the stalks, greens in a dish top with cheeses sauce and bake in oven until bubbling. (steam the stalks first or they take forever to cook in the sauce)

Duchess that's where the last lot went

I used half to make the pasta dish this evening and both DH and I really enjoyed it . I've steamed the other half and froze it - will have to see how it is when defrosted.

Use as spinach - makes great lasagne, using thick layers of raw chard alone, alternating with the cheesy sauce. Needs to be a thick layer of chard as it cooks to nothing. Very veggie-hippie but nice.
