can't you go next door and borrow?

If you use spread you will (probably) end up with a runny goo. You need real butter (failing that the old fashioned hard margarine would do, but I don't like the taste).

It will taste vile.

I only use real butter for mine. Otherwise you get that odd greasy effect.

I use whatever spread we happen to have and I don't think it tastes "vile" or "greasy".

In fact I think it tastes fine (and is much easier to make).

Maybe I have lower standards blush

It will be fine with country life.

Unless it's for a cake competition or someone you want to impress coming is to tea.

So what's the verdict mum2samandalex ?

Fruityjuice Tue 21-Jul-09 17:37:44

Never use butter as I never buy it (would be Ten Tonne Tesse if I did).
I've been told my butter icing is delicious - usually make chocolate though so perhaps that hides the taste?
