Can I eat minced beef after finding a fly on it??

I left half a pack of raw mince out to defrost in my kitchen this morning. It was covered with clingfilm but a fly managed to get in and when I went to put the mince back in the fridge I noticed it. Don't know how long it was there. Can I eat the mince now????

Dead or alive? If dead, just pull that bit of meat away. But I'd be taking the approach that cooking the mince for a while will kill any dodgy bits of fly.

Yeah, I was hoping that cooking it would kill any problem bacteria. Just worried about fly eggs though. I have a maggot phobia!

I'd eat it (the mince rather than the fly)

yes i would think it should be fine as you have not cooked it yet. the heat shoud kill any nasties.

Id wash it (in a sieve) but i know i will be laughed at, but as flies land on sh*t etc i couldnt eat it otherwise cooked or not!
