I think you need to cook it first and add lots of sugar

i was also on the understanding that you had to cook it first, i think people mainly stew it and yes lots of sugar i believe is a must

I cook it first, and add apple to sweeten it.

No, put it in raw, just like you would for apple crumble. It goes squidgy v. quickly anyway, if you pre-cook it you'll end up wth sludge.

Do add plenty of sugar, though.

So you can choose from:
Precooking the rhubarb
or
NOT precooking the rhubard
or
precooking half of it, the other half raw.

Which basically means do whatever you like

I made rhubard and apple crumble yesterday and have just eaten some more today, it was lovely.

I chop it up, sprinkle with sugar and a couple of tablespoons of water, then put in in the oven to 'start off' while I'm making the crumble mixture (about 10mins).

It always comes out perfect - thankyou Marguerite Patten!

I put mine in raw with plenty of brown sugar.
