Birthday BBQ - questions.

Have decided to have a BBQ for my birthday at home, fingers crossed for nice weather on Saturday!

Will be about 10 adults there. Nobody is a foodie really.

Planning on doing burgers, sausages and chicken in different marinades (honey amd mustard, something spicy and maybe a garlic and thyme one?).

Then potato salad, a green salad and some rolls. Oh and cheese for burgers.

Is that enough variety? Money is tight so don't want to buy loads. Should I do vegetable kebabs as well?

Nobody is a vegetarian.

We will have birthday cake and wine, should I do puddings or just keep it simple?

It will be me preparing most of it so I don't want to do tooooooo much (apart from the barbequing bit obv thats DH territory!!)

I'd say keep it simple. You've got the variety of different marinades, plus salads. You know your friends though - would they appreciate vegetable kebabs?

Re puddings, I think cake is enough, although you could add some ice cream if you wanted. Or the bbq classic of marshmallows or bananas and chocolate.

If you have cake, you don't need pudding.

I don't think you probably need many marinades as it'll just get complicated with who wants what.

As for salads, I'd add another. Either a couscous with roast veg type or rice or pasta salad. Roast veg is easy as you can just chop it up, stick it in the oven and leave it for a while...

Good luck!

We are planning a BBQ on Sunday hopefully for joint 35th, 4th and 1st birthdays.

Last time I went a big mad with lots of food and marinades and they never got touched, this year we are keeping it simple, burgers, sausages and chicken drumsticks, plain salad and cake to follow.

sweetkitty its my birthday on the Sunday actually so hopefully it will be nice weather then too.

Honestly I don't think they will appreciate veggie kebabs, hmmm. Maybe I will make a couple for me.

I don't think salady stuff will get eaten really everyone is v.carnivore!

I think I'd just get a couple of punnets of strawberries in and some cream, in case anyone doesn't want cake. Sounds perfectly fine though.

When we have had BBQs in the past the only person eating the veggie kebabs and the salad is me.

My other suggestions would be corn on the cob - boil it to cook it rather than on the BBQ or big flat mushrooms.

Strawberries sounds like a great idea.

If its truely awful weather wise I will be doing lasagne which is more work so I hope its sunny and DH can BBQ for me.

I am worried it won't work though and nobody will drink and there will be no atmosphere. I am not a natural host!
