WHy do Waitrose need to PONCE everything up?

Simples · 11/07/2009 14:53

aspirational toileteries and all.

I wanted Bicks sweetcorn relish ( mm)
no they dont sell it
nor " monster crackin'" ice cream topping

AND for my nigella ( no less) rocky road i wanted "fake cherries" ( ? my brother) glace cherries and had to have dark red ones " from Provence"

i mean theres poncery and there is NOT giving the customer what she wants.

All their Cooks ingredients stuff is wildly overprice just because the lemon juice comes from Sicily, what's wrong with Jif I say? And it's also very poncey.... a handful of blah blah, and a sprinkling of blah blah indeed.

Still I do love Waitrose so I'll forgive them.

Simples, it's simple - shop elsewhere - Waitrose is for indulgence (and how I love it !)

they've changed the Waitrose tissues and made them essentials range, but they aren't as nice, for some reason.
I just like Waitrose for making me feel better, despite having to part with more cash.

Don't normally shop at Waitrose because we don't have one near here, but when I was in Kingston I popped in to buy some stuff for lunch. Bought some posh Wensleydale and Lancashire cheese, and both DH and I agreed that it doesn't taste as nice the the ordinary, cheapo stuff I normally buy!

(Pleb tastes, obviously)

OOOh I'd murder for a Waitrose.

For ponciness, nowt worse than supermarkets in Bangladesh.Such is the surplus of labour that one person (with whistle and glo-sticks) ushers you into parking place, another escorts you over the road, bollocking rickshaw drivers, another opens the door, another tries to wrestle the trolley from you (to push) and every aisle is policed by a spruced up gent holding up a product with his head cocked to one side saying

'Madam, have you tried the very latest imported Lindt chocolate which is only £300 for 250 g?'
I tell you, it is exhausting fending off that much 'help'.Makes me feel like Liz Taylor.

Can you find Bicks anywhere, Simples? Last thing I heard they were having distribution problems in the UK and I'm missing my burger relish!

Waitrose have bowed to recession and started a 'Waitrose essentials' range. Their version of Tesco 'value' I guess, but it looks (and tastes) much better.

Waitrose used to do a totally wonderful prawn cottage cheese (really) but it is no more
things in Waitrose that I love
rubber gloves (pack of 2)
nice anchovies
better fruit than Sainsbury's
lambs lettuce
creme caramels
ds likes the Berliners from the bakery
nice shower gel
the kitchen roll with coffee pots etc on
their tiny things of sliced chorizo
( I am sad really to take pleasure in such simple things !)

May I add to the list frozen cherry tomato and gruyere tartlets? (Somehow, a frozen ready meal is less naff from Waitrose )
