How do I make massala chai tea?

I always drink Twinings Chai which I love more than ordinary tea but at the weekend I had a cup of chai from a festival stall and it was gorgeous. They sold me some of their chai to bring home.

So I have a packet of powdery stuff with cloves, etc mixed in. So I put a spoonful of it in my loose tea ball thingy and put it in cup with hot water, left it for a minute, added water and - it was not nice. Nowhere near as good as the stuff at the festival even though its the same product. Mine seemed to taste much thinner.

What do I need to do?

Boil it for ages with whole milk and sugar. That's the way they make it in India.

Or try these tea bags which are much nicer than Twinings. They also do divine jasmine tea. I haven't tried the chilli tea but bet it's amazing.

Oh, and you can also get Tea Pigs in Whole Foods on Kensington High St, if that helps.

Hi,
I make chai, start by putting water in saucepan, when it simmers place in cardomon pods and fennel seeds. Then add a tea bag and when it all boils add in milk and sugar to taste. Let it boil and serve. Failing that get some Chai tea latte from Starbucks!
You can get cardomon pods and fennel seeds from any asian supermarket.
