What the heck am I going to do for tea?
So far we've been eating various salad with cold meats but I've had more lettuce/cucumber/tomato than I can stomach.

I have a (fairly crap) supermarket nearby and some basic stuff in.
Husband has a sweaty manual job and likes a big meal, kids will eat most things, and I hate pasta and rice.
Please give me some ideas.

I'm sort of looking for something that can be prepared cold. My kitchen is tiny and like an oven anyway. I can't bear the thought of having to stand over the hob or even have the oven on.

Tortilla wraps with your cold meat and cucumber stuffed in?

Tell your dh he is doing a bbq?

Microwaved jacket spuds - you only need to be in the kitchen for 5 seconds.

I'm feeding the kids sandwiches and then cooking for us at 8:30 when its cooler. I figure there is more nutritional value in sandwiches that they do eat than in salad/rice that they don't eat.

make a frittata early, then have it cold later. Eggs, peppers, cheese, whatever else you have in the fridge, and you'll feel virtuous for having used up!

Agree with fruitful, tortilla wraps are great. And you can put the stuff out and let the kids make them up themselves. Good with lettuce, cheese, tomato paste, sweetcorn, that sort of thing.

have done what bluekangeroo said

Have put some pasta in it too to makes it more filling.

Cooked it this morning before the heat zapped my energy!!

We had cold chicken drumsticks, coleslaw, cous cous salad and a bit hunk (or two) of freshly made bread smothered with butter (not marg!). Twas delish.

Working on similar tonight, tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday ad infinitum.

Swap drumsticks for quiche, frittata, spare ribs for variety. Swap bread for jacket potatoes, potato salad, or rice or pasta salad again for variety.

Thanks for the ideas.

I'm going to give the gazpacho a go one day, and it's frittata tomorrow when I get some lovely fresh free range eggs from my friend with chickens.

Still don't know what tonight is going to be. DH rang and said he would "sort something out" so I'm rather hoping it means him doing a BBQ while I lounge in front of the air con!
